Processing a Slab
It starts with purchasing a slab from Atlanta Wood Foundation or a similar organization dedicated to recycling fallen urban trees. The slab is then processed into roughly-sized lumber before flattening and cutting to final size.
Frame Construction
Once the pieces are flattened and cut to the correct dimensions, I use a series of power tools and hand tools to accurately cut the frames. After gluing the frame pieces, I choose a contrasting wood to create the miter splines for long-term stability and aesthetics.
Frame Finishing
After cutting and installing the splines, the frames are carefully sanded to a high grit providing a silky smooth surface that you can’t help but run your hands over. Next, the frames can be customized using laser engraving before applying a high-quality woodworking oil and wax for a finish that shines and feels (and smells) amazing. Finally the hardware and glass are installed, and the frames are cleaned, completed, and ready for delivery.
